Glutino treats

A month ago I bought a box of Glutino Cranberry Breakfast Bars. I did not like them at all. They are expensive and taste like cardboard. I haven't tried the other flavors just the Cranberry. I like a lot of the other stuff they sell though. For example, the bag of pretzel sticks is great. They taste just like pretzels! I highly recommend them. My sister and I have also tried the Double Chocolate Dream Bites (chocolate cookies with a chocolate cream center). Those are good but fattening. My favorite cookies are the chocolate wafers. You can put them in ice cream or eat them with your coffee. My sister does not like the Zebra Dreams Sandwich Cookie (it's a vanilla cream between two chocolate wafers). She said they were too sugary. Not enough flavor. Gluten free cookies are always going to cost more than regular cookies. You might end up paying a lot to find a cookie that you really like.

The trouble with Mexican restaurants

We recently went to Los Cucos restaurant in San Marcos. San Marcos is not too far from Austin. It is a nice place with palm trees out front. We spoke to the waiter about our allergies to gluten and he was very helpful. They do not have a gluten free menu or a gluten free list. He told us that most restaurants use wheat flour in the corn tortillas. This was sad for us because it is one more thing we can't eat. I got the chicken fajita plate, my sister got a shrimp cocktail thing, and I think my mom got a beef plate. The waiter gave us corn chips instead of tortillas and made sure they didn't have wheat. I still got sick. It could have been the rice. It is very hard to explain all of the ingredients we can't have. The waiter tried his best to explain to the kitchen staff even though it seems they didn't speak English. If you don't have Celiac disease I would recommend it, otherwise I would wait until they come up with a gluten free menu.

Our first review!

My sister and I have Celiac disease and we are reviewing restaurants and gluten free foods. We have checked out a few so far. If you have a gluten allergy you know how hard it is to eat out. There are so many things to look out for when it comes to food. We recently discovered a great restaurant called Brick Oven. They have a huge selection of gluten free food. They even have a laminated gluten free menu! It has pastas, pizzas, breads, and even desserts. We have tried the pizzas. They have all sorts of toppings that are gluten free including pepperoni. The pizzas are cooked Medium Well so if you want it hot and crispy have it well done. They are not thick or too thin. Just perfect. The medium size can feed 2 people if you get a side salad with it. We have only been to the location on Brodie Lane so I am not sure if all the other locations have the same gluten free menu. The gluten free menu on their website says Brodie Lane so it might mean that is the only location where that menu is offered. http://www.brickovenrestaurant.com/
